Welcome to the final show of 2011. Both of our Professional football sides play their final matches of the year. In the Championship Bristol City won by a goal to nil against the league leaders, Southampton at St. Mary’s last night to complete a season double. Stephen Pearson’s 79th minute strike took away Saints unbeaten home record in 2011. In Rugby Union, Bristol won again away to Nottingham in the Championship at Meadow Lane last night to open up a massive 12 point lead over their rivals. It was close this time with Bristol running out winners by 35-24 (4 tries to 2). There will also be a review of the year with my favourite Interviews and Features. 1) GERRY GOW – FOOTBALL INTERVIEW. Back in August 2011, I interviewed Bristol City Midfield legend Gerry Gow who used to grace the old 1st Division for the Robins in the 1970’s. I met Gerry at Clevedon Town Football club as he launched his Testimonial year and asked him how the move to the west country came about? 2) RACISM IN FOOTBALL – FEATURE With recent instances of alleged racism between Premiership Footballers; Pat Hart reports on how an Bristol iniative is trying to address the problem…. 3) BRISTOL WOMAN’S FOOTBALL – INTERVIEW Bristol Woman’s Academy Team enjoyed their first venture into Europe with a tie in Russia this year. Saturday Sport’s Neil Evans met up with striker Anne Marie Heatherson before the first leg at Ashton Gate… 4) DISABLED LAND SAILOR, CHRIS SELWAY – INTERVIEW The sport of ‘Land Sailing’ is a new one and you will find both able bodied and disabled athletes competing equally against each other. Earlier this month I talked to paraplegic Sailor Chris Selway… 5) BASKETBALL REFEREE, DAVID NORRINGTON – INTERVIEW In Sept 2011, the City Academy next door to our BCfm studios hosted Basketball’s Bristol Academy Cup. I caught up with Referee David Norrington who had literally just finished officiating at the event… 6) HILLSBOROUGH DISASTER POLICING – INTERVIEW BCfm’s Friday ‘Politics’ Drivetime show presenter, Tony Gosling interviewed Tony Farrell, a senior Policeman who witnessed a breakdown in crowd control within South Yorkshire police. He was on duty at Hillsborough stadium when 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death…. 7) Dings Crusaders Chairman – Steve Lloyd INTERVIEW Local Amateur rugby team Dings Crusaders play in National Two League South and two weeks ago they earned a 20 points to 15 win over their bitter rivals Clifton. Dings Chairman Steve Lloyd spoke to me before the big Derby at Lysandeer Avenue…. 8a) Bristol City Legends Evening – Interview with Scott Murray In September, past Bristol City players and the then Management team under Keith Millen honoured City Legends at Ashton Gate and raised money for the John Ateyo statue… Former Aston Villa and Robins winger Scott Murray is now a BBC Radio Bristol & Somerset Sound pundit. I asked Scott what his invitation mean’t to him personally… 8b) Bristol City Legends Evening – Interview with Angus Scott At the Bristol City Legends evening I bumped into former HTV West and ITV Sports Presenter Angus Scott.  Presented by Clane Selway Nice and easy listening with Clane Hope you had a good Christmas, here we are then at the end of another year and the New Year Honours list has been published, it was nice to see local people who are not celebrities honoured for the work they have done in the community two such people are Clive and Sharon Cumming from Kingswood who were both awarded MBE’s for fostering upto 150 children over more than three decades, celebrities who were honoured included comedian Ronnie Corbett which in my opinion was long over. Almost all of us make new years resolutions and once again I’m going to try and stop smoking, I hope you have great success with your new years resolutions.
