I talked to Chief Executive Tom Richardson and first team captain, Alex Gidman prior to a planning meeting as they voiced their enthusiasm for a proposed development that would cost ten million pounds. Bristol City are at mid-table Brighton & Hove Albion in The Championship on Saturday. Stephen Pearson serves a one-game ban after his red card in the FA Cup defeat to Crawley and Marvin Elliot is doubtful with a hamstring strain. Liam Fontaine is still out but new loan signing Chris Wood and Ricky Foster could make their debuts. Kazenga LuaLua is a major doubt for Brighton after suffering a hamstring injury in the FA Cup against Wrexham. Spaniard Vicente and Will Hoskins are set to return, while Lewis Dunk is available again after suspension. Bristol Rovers host table toppers Crawley Town at the Memorial stadium and the Pirates will want to move further away from the wrong end of the League Two Relegation zone. Back in September the gas lost by 4 goals to one with Lee Brown grabbing a consolation goal. In midweek it was Mr Brown who came up trumps with the opening strike in a 2-1 away win at fellow strugglers Hereford United. Our favourite Amateur Football club are Bristol Athletic FC. No match last week for the Saturday side last week because of the wet weather. Athletic lie 6th in the table with 19 points from 11 matches, 7 points off leaders Easton Cowboys Suburbia who have a game in hand in Premier Division Two of the Bristol Surburban league. Today they face Severn Beach at Failand (2pm). The Under 18′s are at home to Kingswood in Bristol Division North of the Bristol Football combination on sunday. In Rugby Union, Bristol beat bottom side Esher last week by 27 points to 7. Bristol are now eleven points clear of 2nd placed Bedford Blues. Today’s opponents in the capital are third placed London Welsh. Dings Crusaders narrowly lost 24-23 at Redruth last Saturday. This afternoon they have a crucial relegation scrap at home to bottom side Westcombe Park. Clifton RFC also lost out last week, with a defeat to Henley by 29 points to 20 at Cribbs Causeway. Today they make the short trip up the M5 to play Gloucestershire neighbours Lydney. We also talk Badmington with Gary Scrivens. The Warmley club are suffering from a dip in Membership, so if you fancy a game for only £3 then ring 0117 9583168 after 6pm. Members meet every Tuesday in the sports hall at the Grange school and sports college, Tower Road North, Warmely between 7pm and 10pm. Don’t forget that during Clane Selway’s saturday show (3-5pm), I ‘ll update you on the latest football and rugby scores plus from 5pm until 6pm, we have a full hour dedicated to the ‘Results Round-up’, so you’ll know how City, Rovers and Bristol Rugby clubs get on today. Bristol City enter the competition at the 3rd Round stage with a tricky tie at League Two leaders, Crawley Town. Our favourite Amateur Football club are Bristol Athletic FC. The Regional Sunday side have now disbanded due to a lack of numbers but the Saturday side and Under 18′s are back in action this weekend, weather permitting! They will not want another postponement as this causes fixture backlog at the end of the season but all being well, the Saturday team are at home to Glenside 5 Old Boys. The lads will be out for revenge as the lost the opening day reverse fixture by 5 goals to 3. The Under 18′s are away to Warmley Rangers on Sunday in Bristol Division North. In Rugby Union, Bristol have on paper an easy match with bottom of the Championship Esher on Sunday (3pm) at the Memorial stadium. Bristol are still top of the table with 60 points, seven clear of Bedford Blues. On saturday, Dings Crusaders and Clifton RFC continue their campaigns in National Two league South after the Christmas break with matches against Redruth and Henley respectively. It was close this time with Bristol running out winners by 35-24 (4 tries to 2). There will also be a review of the year with my favourite Interviews and Features. 1) GERRY GOW – FOOTBALL INTERVIEW. Back in August 2011, I interviewed Bristol City Midfield legend Gerry Gow who used to grace the old 1st Division for the Robins in the 1970’s. I met Gerry at Clevedon Town Football club as he launched his Testimonial year and asked him how the move to the west country came about? 2) RACISM IN FOOTBALL – FEATURE With recent instances of alleged racism between Premiership Footballers; Pat Hart reports on how an Bristol iniative is trying to address the problem…. 3) BRISTOL WOMAN’S FOOTBALL – INTERVIEW Bristol Woman’s Academy Team enjoyed their first venture into Europe with a tie in Russia this year. Saturday Sport’s Neil Evans met up with striker Anne Marie Heatherson before the first leg at Ashton Gate… 4) DISABLED LAND SAILOR, CHRIS SELWAY – INTERVIEW The sport of ‘Land Sailing’ is a new one and you will find both able bodied and disabled athletes competing equally against each other. Earlier this month I talked to paraplegic Sailor Chris Selway… 5) BASKETBALL REFEREE, DAVID NORRINGTON – INTERVIEW In Sept 2011, the City Academy next door to our BCfm studios hosted Basketball’s Bristol Academy Cup. I caught up with Referee David Norrington who had literally just finished officiating at the event… 6) HILLSBOROUGH DISASTER POLICING – INTERVIEW BCfm’s Friday ‘Politics’ Drivetime show presenter, Tony Gosling interviewed Tony Farrell, a senior Policeman who witnessed a breakdown in crowd control within South Yorkshire police. He was on duty at Hillsborough stadium when 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death…. 7) Dings Crusaders Chairman – Steve Lloyd INTERVIEW Local Amateur rugby team Dings Crusaders play in National Two League South and two weeks ago they earned a 20 points to 15 win over their bitter rivals Clifton. Dings Chairman Steve Lloyd spoke to me before the big Derby at Lysandeer Avenue…. 8a) Bristol City Legends Evening – Interview with Scott Murray In September, past Bristol City players and the then Management team under Keith Millen honoured City Legends at Ashton Gate and raised money for the John Ateyo statue… Former Aston Villa and Robins winger Scott Murray is now a BBC Radio Bristol & Somerset Sound pundit. I asked Scott what his invitation mean’t to him personally… 8b) Bristol City Legends Evening – Interview with Angus Scott At the Bristol City Legends evening I bumped into former HTV West and ITV Sports Presenter Angus Scott. Happy Christmas to all Sports Fans and welcome to the Christmas Eve ‘Saturday Sport’ special! Bristol Athletic have a break from Football for the festive season. The fun starts at 7.30pm with Food from 8pm and live DJ sets from Freshblood, Kankard and Melv. Both of our Professional football sides are busy over Christmas. In the Championship Bristol City have a real six pointer against bottom side Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena on Boxing Day (3pm) and in League Two, Bristol Rovers have a Midday clash with South West rivals Plymouth Argyle at the Memorial stadium. In Rugby Union, Bristol entertain Championship Title rivals Bedford at the Mem on Friday night with the winner having the honour of being top at Christmas. Fly-half Mark Davies is out of action for around six weeks after dislocating his shoulder in last Saturday’s British & Irish Cup defeat at Ayr by 16 points to 14. The 22-year-old, made his first start since September and impressed in Scotland before suffering the injury in the 52nd minute. Head coach Liam Middleton signed Matty James to complement fly-half Tristan Roberts and Davies earlier this season but is unlikely to bring in short-term reinforcements. The injury rules Davies out of the key Championship games with Bedford, Nottingham, Esher, London Welsh and Rotherham Titans.
